In the event of bad weather and you have chosen an indoor and outdoor session, please keep your appointment and we will reschedule your outdoor session.

What do I Wear?  You will want to bring a variety of outfits, some casual, some dressy.  It is okay to bring extra clothes if you are unsure what will photograph well.  As a general rule, you should avoid sleeveless or very short sleeves.  Please make sure your clothes are clean and pressed.  Plan on bringing your clothes on hangers to avoid wrinkles or fold lines.

Gentlemen:  For the yearbook picture, a coat and tie is the norm.  Some prefer a solid color sweater which also photographs well.  After that, comfort and style is the rule.  Medium or dark tones, jeans, sweaters, shorts…whatever you want.

Ladies:  Sweaters or a nice blouse are the norm for the yearbook picture.  And like the guys, after that, comfort and style is the rule.  Solid or subdues patterns photograph the best.  Avoid shirts that are made of thin knit and worn skin tight; these become see through under the studio lights.  Makeup should be evenly applied to avoid shiny areas.  Also, a little extra mascara, eyeliner and lip gloss enhances the photographs.

Shoes:  Sometimes your shoes will show in the pictures, so make sure they complement your outfits.  Changes may be necessary with your different outfits.  Guys, make sure you have socks that match your suit.

Can I bring someone with me?  Absolutely! Some people find it more comfortable to have a parent or friend with them during the session.  We do however limit the number of people in the camera room to one plus the person(s) being photographed.  Others are welcome to wait in our comfortable lounge area.  Please make sure any small children who come with you have adult supervision.

Can I bring some props?  Bring whatever you want to be photographed with.  Over the years people have brought: dogs, cats, snakes, chickens, motorcycles, robots, musical instruments, sports items, books, uniforms, etc.  If you are bringing an animal, please notify the studio in advance.

What about a suntan?   There is a difference between a sunburn and a suntan.  Sunburns do not photograph well.  Suntans, in moderation, photograph well.  Plan your clothing to make sure strap marks are not visible.  A note to outdoor enthusiasts, beware of lines left behind from your sunglasses.

Glasses:  If you typically wear glasses and want to wear them in your portraits, it is best to have the lenses removed temporarily to prevent glare and reflection.

Your Hair:  Your hair is your responsibility.  Guys, if you need a haircut, you should plan on getting one about a week before your session.  Ladies, if you want to do shots with straight hair and curly hair, please let us know in advance for planning purposes. If you plan on having any pictures taken with a hat on, those will be done as the last photo set.

What can I expect at my photo session?  Expect to have fun.  We find that the best portraits are done in a relaxed, stress free environment.  Bring your MP3 player or favorite CDs and we will play them during your session.  The yearbook picture is usually the first set we photograph, so it is best to arrive wearing the clothes for that picture.

When will my proofs be ready?   Your proof book will be ready about a week after your session.  You will receive a call or card in the mail notifying you when they are in.  There is a $150 retainer required to remove the proofs from the studio.  The retainer will be applied to your final package order.

Appointment time: Your appointment time is the time we begin photographing.  Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time so we can talk a little about what you want and for last minute touches to your hair and makeup.  If you are running late, please call the studio.  Guests who arrive 15 minutes late, without the courtesy of a phone call, will be rescheduled or cancelled.

Cancellations and no shows:  Other than appointments scheduled online, Ron Smith Photography does not require you to prepay your session fee.  Since the summer is the busiest time at the studio, we do ask that you show up for your appointment.  If for some reason you need to cancel or reschedule, please have the courtesy to do so at least 72 hours prior to your appointment.

We know you have a choice in studios and we appreciate your business.  If there is anything we can do for you or should you have any questions, please call 248-625-3686 (FOTO).

Thank you.
